Message from MUSD Superintendent

Hello Mayer Unified School District Wildcat Community!

I would like to welcome you back to our District for the 2023-2024 school year. The teachers, staff, and students are settling into the school routines and schedules. Extracurricular programs: 21st Century and athletics are in full swing. It’s hard to believe that school has been in session and fall is rapidly approaching. We are almost through our first quarter of teaching and learning.

Mayer Unified School District is focused on supporting student learning. This year, the District has 4 early release days. The priority of the early release days is teacher professional development in Emergency Operations, teaching, and learning. The District is analyzing student data to identify strengths in our teaching and to provide students support in academic areas that require additional re-teaching and support. Both of our schools have remediation and intervention for students who require a little more time.

Mayer Unified School District has been working diligently to update our Emergency Operations Plan. This plan has been Governing Board approved. This year a primary focus is to implement the plan by practicing evacuations and emergency scenarios to better prepare Mayer Unified School District and our community for processes and procedures that will be implemented during an emergency event. There will be a focus by the District on emergency preparedness throughout the in-services and the year.

Mayer Unified has had a very busy summer. On July 5, 2023, the elementary playground was demolished. Soon, our students and community will have a brand new playground. We will have a ribbon-cutting celebration for this amazing project once it is complete. Although the timeline for the completed playground has been extended, Mayer Elementary School will soon have a functional and fun playground. The high school has received a new paint job throughout. It is amazing how beautiful it turned out.

We are going to have a great year!

Risha VanderWey
